New Opinion on The Dark Knight

It’s a very, very good movie.

Did it deserve to be as a highly acclaimed as it was? No.

Did it deserve a billion dollars? No

Are there problems? Yes. Bale’s husky voice, Rachel needing to be rescued twice, Joker’s leaving everything to chance and dependence on others, being able to rob and escape banks in broad daylight, somehow setting up detonators in an entire hospital without anyone noticing.

My original rating was a 6. Now I’m going up to an 8. Maybe 8.5 but no higher. It’s not a movie where I walk away going “That was absolutely amazing” like I did with The Avengers” but still very enjoyable. I’m certainly far more interested in The Dark Knight Rises this year but I doubt it’ll blow me over.

Oh and Heath Ledger. In the past I’ve thought that he really only won the Oscar for his role because he died. I think his death may have had a hand in getting it (possibly, maybe not) but goddamn did he deserve it. He was by far the best part of the film.

HOLY SHIT. BIG NEWS FROM ALEX.

I think it’s really cool how someone (anyone, not just you) can come back to something later and have an entirely different opinion on it. And I think your points of negativity/criticism are duly noted and I agree in many counts.

Thanks.

I looked back at my criticisms when I first saw the movie and I wanted to smack my thirteen year old self, one of things I said was “The Batman copycats were weird”. That’s not a decent criticism and they weren’t weird either. I did want to go back considering how much more I know about what makes a good movie and what makes a bad movie. I can see why people thought it was excellent but to be as critically acclaimed as it was nationwide, that seems a bit over the top personally.

At least now my criticisms are a little more valid. As in how can no one spot a bus come out of a bank and not get it reported or tell the cops as soon as they arrive to go after them.
